Jack Lynwood Conerly
February 14, 1938 - December 14, 2011
Lt. Jack Lynwood Conerly USCG, Ret, 73, a native of Waynesboro, MS and resident of Savannah, GA died Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at Hospice Savannah in Savannah, GA. He was retired from the U. S. Coast Guard as a Search and Rescue Pilot after 20 years of active service.
Lt. Conerly began his military career as a Marine. He then joined the U.S. Coast Guard. Lt. Conerly earned the National Defense Service Medal, USCG Good Conduct Medal, USCG Air Medal, USCG Commendation Medal, Navy Meritorious Commendation Ribbon and the Antarctica Service Ribbon. He was also the recipient of an Appreciation Award from the U. S. Customs and as a youth was proud to have been the youngest of his generation to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.
Lt. Conerly is preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Linwood E. Holley, his father, Lamar Adam Conerly, Sr., and his youngest daughter, Lyn Conerly.
He is survived by his mother, Berenice Holley Conerly, of Laurel, MS; two daughters, Tammy Carleton, Angela Rawls, both of Savannah, GA; seven grandchildren, Amy L. Carleton, Heather L. Carleton, Sarah Jane Carleton, Cody T. Carleton, Spencer L. Carleton, Karen Rawls, John A. Rawls; six great grandchildren; the mother of his children, Maudie L. Conerly; three brothers, Robert L. Conerly, of Oklahoma City, OK, Lamar A. Conerly, Jr., of Destin, FL, James Kenneth Conerly, of Nashville, TN; four brothers and sisters, Xerxes Z. Herrington, Constance M. Carlson, Catherine L Herrington, Douglas J. Herrington; and several nieces and nephews.
Lt. Conerly was laid to rest in Waynesboro Cemetery, Waynesboro, Mississippi alongside family members who have preceded him in death. Graveside Services were held on December 19, 2011 where he was awarded full Military Honors. The family would like to thank the U. S. Coast Guard Station of Mobile, Alabama and the Naval Reserve Station of Meridian, Mississippi for providing these Honors.
